Search ends for man who jumped from cruise ship
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard has ended its search for an Army sergeant who has been missing since jumping from a Carnival cruise ship.
The Orlando Sentinel reports 31-year-old Ronald Kemp jumped from a top deck of the Carnival Fascination cruise ship early Tuesday. Officials say he had been assigned to Fort Stewart-Hunter Airfield near Savannah, Ga.
Officials say a Carnival security officer saw the man jump.
Coast Guard officials say cruise ship crew members tossed life rings into the water immediately after Kemp jumped. The ship then turned around and went back to the area where he went overboard. Several Coast Guard cutters joined the search. Air Force reservists also joined the search.
