BMX riders earn Taylor Scholarship

A celebratory photo was taken on Aug. 25 at Charlotte BMX when the track reintroduced the Taylor Scholarship program. A total of $2,000 worth of scholarships were handed out to eight people, each receiving $250. The recipients of this year’s Taylor Scholarship are Zach Swiontek, Justis and Slade Sisk, Shawn Lefresne, Aiden Raimondo, Blake Wellins, Gabriel King and Alex Chambers, who is not shown in the photograph. The scholarship recipients were joined by the following track officials in the photo: Amanda Carr, Shawn Swiontek, Jolene Swiontek, Deana Sisk, Angela Lefresne, Alex Hutchinson, Cindy Francis, Jada Webb.

When current track officials at Charlotte BMX took over the Punta Gorda race track in 2009, they found out that the Taylor Scholarship, named in honor of the track’s founder Pete Taylor, hadn’t been awarded in several years.

After overcoming a $2,000 deficient in their budget, Charlotte BMX track officials promised riders they would continue the scholarship program.
