Church celebrates 50th with
food, families, memories

Port Charlotte Church of Christ, 20484 Midway Blvd., invites everyone to its 50th anniversary celebration beginning at noon today, and 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

The church has a food pantry that serves 300 families from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. the third Thursday of each month.

Although the church was damaged by Hurricane Charley in 2004, it served as a disaster-relief center for the area, cooking as many as 2,000 meals per day on outdoor grills.
PORT CHARLOTTE — On Sept. 2, 1962, a small group met at Peace River Elementary School to start what would become Port Charlotte Church of Christ. This weekend, the church is celebrating 50 years in the community with a weekend of reminiscing, singing, prayer and food.
“We have former ministers coming back to speak, and time for members of the congregation to offer their memories too,” said Emmett Clark, church minister.
