EASTERN CHARLOTTE COUNTY — A developer that established a construction-debris landfill south of Punta Gorda in the past now is proposing a regional landfill in a remote area some 25 miles east of Punta Gorda, near the state-owned Babcock Ranch Preserve.

The proposed landfill, named Calusa Green, has been quietly undergoing a review by Charlotte County staffers for the past three months. It is slated to be considered by the planning and zoning board in September, and the County Commission later, according to Inga Williams, comprehensive planner.
