PORT CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte County School District faces a $5.5 million budget shortfall this year, a deficit it plans to correct by implementing furlough days for administrative employees and taking away teacher planning periods.

The Charlotte County School Board unanimously approved a request to advertise the proposed budget cuts for the 2012-2013 fiscal school year on Tuesday night.
