PORT CHARLOTTE — Charlotte County Sheriff’s detectives arrested a North Port woman Tuesday who tried to deposit a $9,719 counterfeit U.S. Treasury check into her newly opened checking account in Port Charlotte. Arrested on six charges was Kaylee Liana Sanchez, 28, of the 1700 block of Raywood Avenue. Tuesday at 1 p.m., CCSO received a call from a Regions Bank branch in reference to a fraud complaint. Deputies responded and placed Sanchez under arrest for providing a false Florida driver’s license and resisting arrest when she attempted to deposit the fake check into her Regions Bank account she opened Monday with the fake ID. Sanchez reportedly stole the counterfeit check at a friend’s Rotonda area home last month. That investigation continues.

Sanchez was transported to the Charlotte County Jail, where she remains on $12,000 bond. She was charged with Uttering a Counterfeit Check, Possession of a Counterfeit Check, Possession of a Fake Driver’s License, Criminal Use of Personal Identification, Resisting Arrest and Giving False Name to a Law Enforcement Officer.
