SARASOTA COUNTY — A proposed Mosquito Control millage-rate increase costing homeowners about $3 more in their property taxes could break a 13-year streak of no county tax increases.

The Sarasota County Commission approved a resolution Wednesday certifying the proposed not-to-exceed ad valorem tax millage rates for Sarasota County by a 3-2 margin, including General Operating, Debit Service, Mosquito Control and other various districts for the fiscal year 2013 budget.
