Art board moves
ahead with plan for Sumter-Price corner
NORTH PORT — Despite the bitter memory of 2008, when statewide approval of a property tax reform amendment meant the end to a proposed sports mural at the George Mullen Activity Center, members of the North Port Art Advisory Board continued in their effort to place a piece of public art on the corner of Sumter and Price boulevards.
The board voted 5-0 Monday evening to direct staff liaison Barbara Wolf of Fleet Management to draft a letter regarding a bid for a clock, preferably four-faced, that would be placed on the corner in front of the Walgreens Pharmacy. The draft would be brought back for the art board for approval before it was sent to the City Commission through City Manager Jonathan Lewis.
