Diane McFarlin, publisher of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, has been named the dean of the College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida, a position she will assume in early July.

McFarlin said Monday she was honored to be returning to her alma mater, where she graduated with a journalism degree in 1976.
