Locals fight slavery

Englewood residents Vanessa Morris and Shannon Watkins cannot close their eyes to domestic and global human trafficking. The two women created "Project Buy Her Back" to support "hands-on" efforts to free victims from human slavery.
ENGLEWOOD — The 2008 film “Taken,” which portrayed a girl being kidnapped and sold into prostitution, opened the eyes of Englewood residents Shannon Watkins and Vanessa Morris to human trafficking.
“It exposed trafficking — obviously through a Hollywood lens,” Watkins said. “I didn’t know it was something that was happening.”
