Mullen Center gym reopens after
renovation, energy-saving light installation

Teens play basketball in the newly renovated gymnasium at the George Mullen Activity Center. The ceiling and walls were repainted, new LED lights and basketball goals were installed, and the top layer of flooring was repoured at the 14-year-old facility.

NORTH PORT — City officials say the George Mullen Activity Center gym looks brand new.
“We just reopened here this past week and, I tell you what, if you walk in the building, you don’t realize you’re in the same place,” said City Parks and Recreation Manager Pat Calhoon. “A whole lot had not been done, especially in the gymnasium, since it was opened 14 years ago.”
