NORTH PORT — Cranberry Elementary School has been nominated for a prestigious National Blue Ribbon School award.

“Schools get nominated by the state based on test scores and criteria like closing the achievement gap,” said Sarasota County School District spokesman Scott Ferguson. “The school has to fill out a lengthy application and send it to the Florida Department of Education ... (then) they are forwarded to the federal Department of Education. Applications have to be in by March 2,
and I know Cranberry is on target for that.”
