Driver killed, passenger hurt in I-75 rollover
NORTH PORT — A 59-year-old Sarasota man was killed and his female passenger seriously injured Saturday night when the SUV they were riding in blew a tire on Interstate 75 and rolled over, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The wreck happened around 7:15 p.m. near mile marker 184 in North Port, between the North Sumter Boulevard and River Road exits.
The right rear tire of the 2001 Ford sport-utility vehicle blew out as the two were traveling south, causing driver Richard Frank Lancellotti to lose control of the vehicle, an FHP report shows. The SUV veered off the interstate and into the grassy median, where it overturned, landing on the driver’s side. Lancellotti was pronounced dead at the scene, an FHP report shows. Passenger Sharon L. Lytle, 50, also of Sarasota, was taken to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton with serious injuries. Both had been wearing seat belts.
