PUNTA GORDA — The city zoning official Thursday mailed a notice to the owner of a 17-bedroom home for mentally disabled adults to “cease and desist” using the facility for congregate living to resolve a zoning violation.

The Chara House, built in 1989 at 509 Berry St., came under zoning scrutiny after a neighbor complained to police in October that the facility was housing people with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder without much supervision, police reports indicate.
