Meetings may address $6M surplus
SARASOTA COUNTY — County commissioners are expected Thursday to address an unexpected $6 million windfall at a budget workshop. Commissioner Carolyn Mason said the issue also may be brought up at their regular meeting Tuesday.
Sarasota County saved the $6 million during the last fiscal year, and commissioners have at least two choices regarding the funds — return them to the General Fund to help close a budget gap projected for fiscal year 2015, or reallocate them into the depleted economic development incentive fund.
