William Joseph “Bill” Bingham, 89, of North Port, Fla., and formerly of Chicago, Ill., passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2013.
Bill was born April 19, 1924, in Sterling, Ill., to Thomas and Lorene Bingham, and was the oldest of 16 children.
He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Bill retired from the Chicago Fire Department after 40 years of service, and moved to North Port in 1990. He belonged to San Pedro Parish, where he also served as an extraordinary minister and in the Holy Name Society, and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the North Port VFW, the Jockey Club and the North Port Senior Center.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine; children, Patrick, Kathleen (John) Geary, William (Kathleen), Dennis (Diane), Mary Eileen (John) Dalcamo, Michael and Timothy (Katherine); grandchildren, Patrick, Colleen, Brian, Daniel, Keith, Patrick, Deidre, Sean, Catherine, Kyle, Kevin, Rose Eileen, Seamus, Timothy, Dennis, Maureen, Bridget, Caitlin and Bradford; great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Logan, Samantha, Malcolm, Abby and Jack; brothers, John (Carmen), Harry (Diane), Charles (Mary) and Michael; sisters, Ann McMillin, Mary Wertz, Catherine Schnell, Margaret Woltkamp, Maura Rooney, Dorothy (Thomas) Hazer and Jean (Joseph) Bularo; in-laws, Florence Bingham, Sharon Bingham and Richard Kras; and numerous fond nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Lorene; brothers, Robert, James and Thomas; sister, Rita Kras; daughter-in-law, Sandra; and in-laws, Vern Schnell, Irene Bingham, John McMillin and Betty Bingham.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at San Pedro Catholic Church in North Port. In lieu of flowers, his family requests memorial contributions be made to San Pedro Catholic Church.
