SARASOTA COUNTY — A survey of bus riders of the Sarasota County Area Transit System shows they are against the county’s possible consolidation with MCAT, its Manatee County counterpart.
Riders say they are overwhelmingly pleased with the current service provided by SCAT. The survey gauged the public’s interest in a proposed merger which was first discussed by the Sarasota and Manatee County commissions in a joint meeting in April. Officials say a consolidation between the bus systems — which would be run by a private operator but would maintain their ownerships by both counties — could prove to be a money-saver for the community and provide “seamless” travel between the counties.
