One moment last Saturday afternoon, 13-year-old Gabriel Welchman of Prairie Creek Estates in Punta Gorda was cheerfully warming up his horse for an afternoon ride with his parents.
The next moment, he was lying unconscious in a Tampa General Hospital unit for traumatic brain injuries, with his parents at his bedside.
