Preserving service taxes a priority for county, city
SARASOTA COUNTY — County and city of North Port representatives presented their legislative priorities — topped by protecting revenue streams and ensuring home rule — to the Sarasota County Legislative Delegation Monday.
Both the county and the city are staunchly opposed to any legislation that would change either the local business tax or the communication services tax. Local business tax receipts are the method used by a local government to grant the privilege of engaging in or managing any business, profession and occupation within its jurisdiction. County Commission Chairwoman Christine Robinson said that for the county, revenue is solely used to fund the Sarasota County Economic Development Corporation.
