Delmer Smith guilty of first-degree murder

Delmer Smith III on Thursday was found guilty of first-degree murder in the slaying of Kathleen Briles in her Bradenton home in 2009.

The jury deliberated for more than two hours at the Manatee County Judicial Center before reaching a unanimous verdict. The trial now moves to the penalty phase.
