Step back in time this weekend. The Fishery Restaurant and the Rotary Club of Placida are hosting a two-day seafood festival in historic Placida.

Fishery restaurant owner Garry Albritton and his wife Margaret have seen the festival advance and grow over the past 30 years. “It all began when local fishermen prepared seafood delicacies for sale,” he explained. “When commercial fishing net bans went into effect, the fishermen left, and area businesses took over the job of planning a festival. Vendors and village merchants now offer fresh seafood, unique crafts, and original art ranging in price from 50 cents to $5,000.” Albritton, a descendent of early fish house operator Walter Gault, was born and raised in the Placida area. “I believe that the Placida Festival benefits the entire community,” he said. “We encourage local businesses, schools and organizations to participate in every way possible, and proceeds from the festival are donated to local charities.”
