“The Drunkard,” a musical melodrama composed by Barry Manilow and Bro Herrod opens Friday at The Glenridge Performing Arts Center in Sarasota.

According to a release from the Glenridge, the story is about “the good, the bad, and the besotted.” The story is based on the W.H.S. Smith story of the same name, but with much poetic license and some mayhem by Herrod and Manilow. The characters include a sweet young bride, her innocent husband affected by the evils of alcohol and a nefarious lawyer.
