How did a nice girl like Louise find herself starring in a House of Burlesque strip joint? If you’re a music theater buff familiar with the play “Gypsy,” you already know the answer.
The play, first performed in 1957, has earned its place as one of the most popular productions of all time. It’s the story of a domineering stage mother, her two daughters, and one of the most patient and adoring men a woman would ever want. Ethel Merman starred as the original Mama Rose and Jack Klugman as the man who loves her. Sandra Church played Louise, the daughter who accidentally becomes “Gypsy.”
