Lorraine E. Riddell

Lorraine E. Riddell, 87, of Englewood, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013.

She was born Feb. 23, 1925, in Negaunee, Mich.

Lorraine graduated from Newberry High School in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula in 1941. She moved to the Detroit area and had a career with General Motors. Lorraine, along with 11 brothers and sisters, enjoyed outdoor sports all their lives. She was an instructor from Aspen, Colo., to Alpine Valley, Mich. Lorraine won dozens of skiing competitions in slalom and giant slalom events all over the country. She was always teaching her sons, nephews, and nieces how to swim, ski, and other outdoor sports. Lorraine was an alternate speedskater on the 1952 Winter Olympic team, and a member of the National Ski Patrol until 1984.

She is survived by her son, John Riddell; granddaughter, Angela Lorraine Riddell; and grandson, Jacob John Riddell.

Services will be private.

Arrangements are by Lemon Bay Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
