Kenneth H. Gooding, 82, of Englewood, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, Fla.

He was born Aug. 29, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Quentin and Delphine (nee Roach) Gooding.

Mr. Gooding, at age 14, met his future wife Kathlyn. They were married Nov. 17, 1951, and eventually settled in New Jersey, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Fairleigh Dickenson University. Mr. Gooding was part owner of Ajax Transformer Company in Hackensack, N.J., before retiring to South Florida in 1988. He was a physical-fitness enthusiast, involved in long-distance running, cycling, golf and other activities.

Mr. Gooding leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years, Kathlyn (nee Wieland) Gooding; four loving sons and their families, William (Annie) Gooding, David (Sharon) Gooding, Keith (Natalie) Gooding and Wayne (Richard) Gooding-Barr; and was the proud grandfather of Kyle, Sean, Christopher, Zackary and Erik. He was preceded in death by his older brother, William Gooding, in May, 29, 1951, a result of the Korean War.

“Miss me, but let me go.”

The family will hold private services. As an active member of Fellowship Church of Englewood, Mr. Gooding’s sincere wishes are that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the church’s Facility Fund; send them to The Fellowship Facility Fund, P.O. Box 121, Englewood, FL 34295.

One of the finest friends you could know. The Fellowship Church will all miss his smiling face and helping hand. Always willing and smiling as he did his task.

Ken was a fine, strong Christian friend who loved The Lord and his entire family with all of his heart. He was totally diligent in all that he did. Ken pursued excellence in all his endeavors.. He will be missed by his lovely wife, family and friends, but because we know that he is with his Savior, it gives all who know him a real peace and joy. Ken when the Lord calls me home I'll meet you at the eastern gate.
