Walter Joseph Ford

Walter Joseph Ford, 82, of Englewood, Fla., passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, in Appleton, Maine.

He was born July 26, 1930, in Plymouth, Mass., the son of Walter and Mary Ford.

Walter grew up in Duxbury, Mass., graduating from Duxbury High School. He continued to live in the surrounding towns prior to retiring in Florida. Walter served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1950 to 1953; his love for the ocean continued as he fished on the family commercial fishing boat. He also was a heavy-equipment operator. Walter loved his daily walks, as well as clamming, saltwater fishing and gardening.

He is survived by his children, George Ford, Robert Ford, James Ford and Cynthia Ford; grandchildren, Hannah Ford, Madelyn Ford, Jamie Silvia, Joshua Ford and Alyse Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Lucas Silvia, Aiden Ford, Ava Ford and Kosta Rosado. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; sisters, Madge and Evelyn; and brothers, Richard and Earl.

Services will be held in the spring in Englewood and Pembroke, Mass.

Arrangements are by Strong Hancock Funeral Home in Massachusetts.
