Barbara Herr Grandin
Barbara Herr Grandin went to be with the Lord on November 15, 2012. She was born in Lancaster, New Hampshire on March 19, 1931 to Ethel Johnson Herr and Clarence Stumpf Herr. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Norman William Grandin. Barbara graduated from Berlin High School in 1949. In her youth she was an avid skier and mountain climber and spent much of her time in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. After graduation from high school she attended Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire and the Forsyth School of Dental Hygienist at Tufts College in Boston, Massachusetts. Barbara had a distinguished 30-year career as a dental hygienist in the Keene public school system. She significantly contributed to improving the program with her ideas and initiatives to promote the importance of oral health education and treatment in a child’s elementary school years. The Keene program was recognized as the best in the state and Barbara was selected to be the vice president of the New Hampshire Dental Hygienist Association. After retirement she moved to Englewood, Florida where she enjoyed the beach, kayaking, knitting and doing her daily crossword puzzle. In 2010, she moved to Clayton, North Carolina to be closer to family.
She is survived by her two sons Jay and Keith and his wife Tina, her sister Betty Hackett and her husband Robert and her brother Jay and his wife Hope. She had seven grandchildren: Sheena Hess, Matthew Grandin, Mark Grandin, Paul Grandin, Kyle Grandin, Christopher Grandin, and Stephanie Grandin and one great-granddaughter, Harper Hess.
The family is planning a Celebration of Life service at First Congregation Church with burial in the Mount Caesar Cemetery in Swanzey, New Hampshire in June 2013. Once the date is set an announcement will be placed in the Keene Sentinel. Arrangements were by McLaurin at Pinecrest, Clayton, North Carolina.
