Early
Englewood school days
PHOTO PROVIDED BY DIANA HARRIS
After the one-room school on the corner of Harvard Street and Old Englewood Road burned, classes were held in this old store building on Yale Street, perhaps for only one season, while a big new school on Dearborn Street was finished. Photo circa 1922.
Early settlers of our area seemed to have been most concerned about furnishing their large families with a bit of education.
As soon as they were able, they built one-room schools and secured teachers.
