Despite a rise in new foreclosure filings in Charlotte and Sarasota counties in the opening month of 2013, real estate experts remain optimistic that the local housing market continues to strengthen.

“We’re seeing less foreclosures than what we used to,” said 25-year real estate veteran Gay Weekes of Keller Williams Peace River Partners in Punta Gorda.
