TALLAHASSEE — It was all about the competition for Port Charlotte High School senior Adam Rioux.

Competition at Saturday’s Class 3A state championship helped him to finish 38th in a personal record time of 16 minutes, 22.92 seconds. He kept a steady pace through the first two miles of the five-kilometer race before making a move out of the middle of the pack at the end. The rest of the field increased the pace, so he had to keep it up.
