The DeSoto JV basketball team opened its season at home against a much taller Sarasota team, but with DeSoto’s quickness it made for a battle of speed versus height most of the night. Speed won as DeSoto claimed a 60-56 victory in overtime.
DeSoto led the first quarter 12-8 behind the shooting of Kiaeran Washington, who had five points including a three-pointer. Both teams started out timid, turning the ball over numerous times. Sarasota playing a half court man defense while DeSoto stayed mainly in a 2-3 zone.
