Carolyn Jane McFarlin, 71, of Arcadia, Fla., passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Tidewell Hospice in Sarasota, Fla.

She was born in Virginia, Nov. 22, 1941, and moved to Arcadia 19 years ago from Sarasota.

Carolyn worked as a director for a preschool day-care facility for several years. She was a homemaker for the last 20 years, and was an avid reader. Carolyn was a member of Pine Creek Chapel in Arcadia; she loved her church family, and helped out as needed at the church. She also volunteered at the DeSoto County Library for a while.

Survivors are her beloved husband of 19 years, Robert “Bob” McFarlin of Arcadia; daughter, Teresa L. (Greg) Blount of Venice, Fla.; stepdaughter, Sandy (David) Gaine of Sarasota; stepsons, Ricky (Jennifer) McFarlin of Inverness, Fla., and Robert Dale “Bobby” McFarlin of Sarasota; and five grandchildren, Daniel and Crystal Blount, Lacey McFarlin, and Jessica and Ashley Gaine. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Robert “Bob” and Billie Greenwood Hayes.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Pine Creek Chapel, Highway 72 West, Arcadia. Online condolences may be made at www.pongerkaysgrady.com.
