Roy Donald Brown

Roy Donald “Snake” Brown, 76, passed away Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, in Arcadia, Fla.

He was born April 28, 1936, in Arcadia, and was a lifetime resident.

Roy was a member of the Church of Nazarene of Arcadia. “Snake,” as his friends called him, was a graduate of DeSoto High School, Class of 1955, and was quarterback for the DeSoto Bulldogs. His love of football transcended into being a huge Florida Gators fan. Roy owned and operated the Palm House Restaurant in Arcadia. He served our country in the U.S. Army.

Roy is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Elizabeth “Libby” Baker Brown of Arcadia; son, Matthew (Kathy) Brown of Sarasota, Fla.; daughter, Angie (Dwayne) Anderson of Sarasota; sisters, Cleo Westberry, and Doris Beard both of Arcadia; grandchildren, Chad Brown, Brennan Anderson, Bradley Anderson, Brett Anderson, Joshua Bowen, and Courtney Campbell; great-grandchildren, Elijah Bowen, and Jasmine Campbell; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Altsie and Judy Irene Drawdy Brown; brother, William “Bill” Brown; sister, Destie Williams; brother-in-laws, Irvin Westberry, and Bill Beard.

A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at the Church of Nazarene, 132 W. Gibson St., Arcadia. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Mick Orr officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Tidewell Hospice, 917 N. Arcadia Ave., Arcadia, FL. 34266. Online condolences can be made at pongerkaysgrady.com.
