Roosevelt Redding Sr.
Roosevelt Redding Sr., 82, passed away Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012.
He was born Feb. 28, 1930, in Quincy, Fla., to Charlie Redding and Francis Ferguson, the fifth of six children.
Roosevelt did a four-year tour in the U.S. Army. After being discharged, he made his home in Arcadia, Fla. Roosevelt worked as a foreman for Sorrells Brothers for 40 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was a great cook. Roosevelt was very family-oriented and supported his community in every way that he could.
He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Coasey Redding; children, Shakira Redding, Roosevelt Redding Jr., Carl Redding and Xaviar Redding; grandchildren, Ja’Lon Redding, Ji’onn Redding and Jananarra Hannon; stepchildren; Darrell, Sandy, Trent, Terrance and Desmond; two daughters from his first marriage, Sonja (Roy) Redding Ottey and Theresa Redding; and a host of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Roosevelt was preceded in death by his five siblings; and parents, Charlie Redding and Francis Ferguson.
Visitation will be held from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. today, Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at Hickson Funeral Home in Arcadia. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 304 W. Oak St., Arcadia.
