The DeSoto Board of County Commissioners approved a tentative millage rate and budget for the 2013/14 fiscal year that will have many residents facing a nearly 21 percent increase in their property tax bills.
In a 4-1 vote, the BOCC approved a raise in the millage rate to 8.4810, a nearly two-mill increase over the current rate of 6.8987. One mill equals $1 of tax on every $1,000 of taxable value. The millage hike will bring in an estimated $2.2 million in additional revenue for the county.
