•The Arcadian Begins 40th Year Serving Arcadia, DeSoto County. “Howdy folks, I am The Arcadian, your new newspaper. I was born of an honest effort to serve disinterestedly, not only Arcadia, but DeSoto County,” said the lead editorial in The Arcadian on October 17, 1924. It was the first issue of the present-day Arcadian and 12 pages were in the issue. Then going into some of the details surrounding the publication of a good weekly newspaper, the editorial concluded: “Please remember that I represent Arcadia and DeSoto County and go into many homes in which this section is judged by my appearance and contents. The more efficient representative I am, the better impression, the better impression, the greater the opportunity to serve. Let’s work together, You and I.” That’s about all there was said about the birth of the newspaper in that issue.
