Astonishing communications technology seems to be the order of the day in our modern society, and I remember one instance when I really believed the computer was a miracle invention.
In high school I concentrated on learning shorthand, as I dreamed of a stenographer position after graduation. And I was pleased when I was able to achieve the speed to record as fast as dictated. Then came the challenging part: making a perfect typed copy from the transcribed material. What frustration when you noted a typo on the freshly-typed copy. Erasures were never a perfect solution; there was only one remedy: retype. That’s when I began looking for a miracle.
