ThIS week IN DESOTO COUNTY
• Dec. 5, 1929 – Hospital gets X-Ray machine. This machine is a one of a kind and the only one in the state. Mr. Forsyth brought the X-Ray machine after seeing it at a convention in Miami 2 weeks earlier. The machine is a “Victor” and known as a “shock proof” outfit. DR. H. P. Bevis of the hospital staff will be the operator of this machine. The new equipment puts Arcadia General Hospital at the head of the list in Florida for the most modern X-Ray equipment.
• Dec. 6, 1934 – The Bull Dogs Bark. Southwest Florida conference football came to a virtual close last week when all the traditional Turkey Day games were played. Ft. Myers, who was undefeated, won the conference title but lost a hard fought game against St. Petersburg of the “Big Ten” by a score of 19-13. Bradenton beat their long time rival Palmetto at home with a score of 32-0. Clearwater out fought Sarasota with a score of 12-0. Winter Haven defeated Bartow 22-0. And Wauchula defeated Arcadia 13-0.
