Quilt of history to be raffled as fundraiser

Share this story:

The Second Tuesday of the Month Quilt Group created an extraordinary quilt representing some of the highlights of Arcadia and DeSoto County, including the famous carved wood sign created by Myron Wickey. Fifteen individually-sewn blocks each contain one of the county's landmarks. This extraordinary quilt is being raffled at Pioneer Day to benefit the DeSoto Arts and Humanities Council.

ARCADIA — You could own a slice of Arcadia’s historic treasures, if you are the winner of a magnificent handmade quilt depicting many DeSoto landmarks.

A group of women who gather every second Tuesday at the County Extension Office to quilt collaborated on a design incorporating some key local landmarks. From the Opera House to City Hall, the DeSoto County Courthouse to the Peace River Bridge, these women re-created Arcadia in fabric. Designs were painstakingly cut from patterned cloth, pieced onto the background fabric and carefully quilted.
