Area groups ready for Thanksgiving

Don Perry of North Port has volunteered at the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition food pantry for the last two years. On Wednesday, Perry and a team of volunteers assembled more than 100 boxes of food for needy families in the area onThanksgiving Day.

By 8:15 a.m. Wednesday morning, a crowd had already formed in the parking lot of the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition in Port Charlotte.
By noon, 85 families had added their names to a waiting list for Thanksgiving Day meals from the coalition’s food pantry.
