Fla. GOP tries to beat Crist before he can run

TALLAHASSEE (AP) — Florida Republicans are doing their best to make sure former Gov. Charlie Crist doesn’t make a political comeback.
Crist left the party in 2010 during an unsuccessful run for Senate. This year, he campaigned for President Barack Obama and other Democrats.
And while Crist remains an independent, there’s a lot of speculation he’ll register as a Democrat and run for governor.
But Republicans are already trying to make sure that won’t happen. They’ve run a television ad and have issued scores of press releases to remind people that it wasn’t long ago that Crist said was as conservative as you can get.
