Originally built by one of the founding families on Hatteras Island/ the Cape Pines is rich in island history. The island is accessible from the mainland on the north at Kitty Hawk/ NC/ the birth place of American Aviation fifty miles away/ or via the NC Ferry Service from Cape Lookout/ NC/ from the south. The mighty Atlantic ocean and the infamous sandbars known as the Diamond Shoals surround Hatteras Island and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. Visitors enjoy these barrier islands as remote and peaceful sanctuaries abundant with numerous bird species and marine life. The motel is within 10 miles of the Ocracoke Island ferry and close to the famed kiteboarding area Canadian Hole.
